Established in 2001, foreshadowing the rise of zef-culture, came the Bellville-based duo of the CY Cowboys, Moulie (Q) & MC Kakpraat.
Bred out of suburban struggle and post 2000 millenial angst, the CY Cowboys infused sounds of Elektro, Rock, Hip-Hop and Drum n Bass with smooth Afrikaans rhymes and punk sensibilities to explode with a raw intensity and emotion that is still felt in the Cape Town underground scene to this day.
We present you a collection of some of their finest moments taken from their 3 x releases, ‘Bellville-style’, ‘Wasdag EP’ & ‘CY Cowboys’ recorded between 2001 – 2007. A unique mix of street grit, humor and politics that stands the test of time.
